What-to-Bring Checklist - 2017
Your child will have a wonderful, fun, learning experience regardless of the weather as long as he or she is prepared!
- Your Georgia Power blue backpack with your name on it – this is your “island bag”
- Books or quiet games for the bus, and pencil or pen (no electronics)
- Raincoat or rain gear (poncho)
- Sweater, sweatshirt or jacket in case it gets cold
- Clothing: Bring 2 change of clothes, including those which can get wet and dirty; Make sure to save 1 set of dry clothes and dry shoes to wear home on bus. (Bathing suit may be worn under clothes on Day 1 for “Surf Sleuth” class if desired.)
- Day 1: We will get wet & dirty. Wear our ORANGE t-shirt on Day 1 as we travel by bus to Tybee. Wear shoes for getting wet and dirty. We will change into dry clothes and shoes after these sessions.
- Day 2: Wear our GREEN t-shirt on Day 2 and dry shoes.
- SHOES: (2 or 3 pairs) (No flip-flops except for use in the shower) - An old pair for getting wet and dirty – such as Chacos, Teva, Crocs with strap, or water sandals. Have a comfortable pair to keep dry
- Hat or ball cap
- Pajamas
- Bedding & Pillow (sheets and blanket or sleeping bag)
- Towels (bring at least 2)
- Toiletries - soap, toothbrush, washcloth, etc.
- Insect Repellent (Non-aerosol only)
- Sunscreen (Non-aerosol only)
- 2 large labeled plastic bags (for wet clothes)
- WATER BOTTLE WITH YOUR NAME ON IT – They have refilling stations at Tybee
- Disposable camera if desired
- Baggies for shell collections
- Money for Canteen ($1 bills and quarters. We don’t give change except during official Canteen times)
What-NOT-to-Bring Checklist
- ANY electronic games or equipment
- Candy, gum or snacks
- Knives
- Fishing equipment
- Fireworks
- Flat irons or curling irons
- Expensive jewelry
IMPORTANT:
- Only bring 1 (one) suitcase, backpack or duffel bag
- Bring 1 sleeping bag or bed roll
- Only bring old clothes suitable for outdoor use. New clothes may be ruined!
- Label all your belongings
- Remember: Multiple layers will keep you warmer than a single heavy layer.
- Do not send valuables! Burton 4-H Center is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
We hold classes in rain or shine (only lightning brings us in)
