Lower School Newsletter from Wade Putnal
February 11, 2016
Our mission at
First Presbyterian Day School is to educate and equip students
to change the
world for God’s glory.
SAFETY INFO and REMINDERS: As
you know, a top priority at FPD is keeping all students safe. Thank you for
helping us with this. Please be reminded of these items from our Elementary
Handbook:
MEDICINE – as
stated in FPD’s Elementary Handbook (posted on the website), all medication
must be administered by school office personnel or the teacher. The child or
parent should deliver the medication, labeled with name, to the Elementary Office,
along with a signed note from the parent or guardian, and if a prescription, a
copy of the prescription or physician’s directions stating what the medication
is for, how often it is to be taken, and the length of time to be taken. Any
special handling such as refrigeration, dilution, etc., must be placed in
writing. IF you send an email, please send to your child’s teacher, as well as
to Carrie Rogers (carrie.rogers@fpdmacon.org) AND Betsy Peake
(betsy.peake@fpdmacon.org) with dosage instructions. The office must have
written instructions. Kindergarten building - please send to Lauren Wrabel
(lauren.wrabel@fpdmacon.org) and to your child’s teacher.
FIRE, SEVERE WEATHER, and SAFETY
DRILLS are procedures in which we have prepared plans at
FPD. Please know that we have specific guidelines for each of these, and we do
practice them with the students. Note: We will have an upcoming SAFETY DRILL. In
this drill we will practice what to do should anything unsafe happen on our
campus. You will be notified beforehand about this drill, in case your child
has questions or shares about it when they get home (you will know it was a
drill.) We know how important it is to practice these with staff and students. Our
top priority being the safety of the students, we also want to conduct practice
procedures in a very serious but non-threatening way for students.
VISITORS: If you are coming to visit a classroom, bring a
birthday treat, eat lunch, etc., all parents and visitors must enter through
the front Elementary Office door, sign in, and get a visitor’s badge. Please do
not try to enter at the carpool door or knock on the window to be let in. We
know your top priority, like ours, is for the safety and well-being of all our
students. Thank you for helping to keep all as safe as possible.
MATH-A-THON – Please return your donation
envelope and prize order form by February 26th. If you are finished
now, you can go ahead and send it in to the Elementary office.
THE VIKING STORE has extended the Winter
Sale thru this Friday (2/12). All outerwear and long sleeve shirts are 20% off!
“Viking Bucks” spending cards make great gifts for Valentine’s Day or any
occasion. Remember we have everything a Viking needs for cold weather:
headwear, scarves, long sleeve spirit shirts, sweatshirts and jackets (all
uniform-approved) as well as blankets. We carry Land’s End uniform shirts and
girls’ sweaters also. Open school days 7:45am - 3:30pm and located in the MAC
building near the cafeteria. For more info, email renita.eversole@fpdmacon.org or call 478-477-6505 x 177.
LIBRARY NEWS: It’s
5th grade quilt time! We need volunteers for Miss Brown’s and
Mrs. Murnan’s classes. (Many thanks to Isabel Stokes’ grandmother for
volunteering for Mrs. Hollingsworth’s class!) Each mom or grandmother volunteer
will piece together squares made by a 5th grade class, and then
quilt the crib-size blanket for that class. We provide all supplies, and this
can be done by machine or hand - NO rush. The quilts hang in the library until
their junior year when they are auctioned at the Fall Festival to help fund the
Junior-Senior prom. You may stop by the library to view previous years’ quilts
any time. Please consider volunteering for one of the 5th grade classes. Thank
you!
FPD Center for Discovery spring class registration is
underway! Open to the community, classes are available for 3K through adults.
Pick up a program guide and registration form in the Elementary Office or online

Please label all jackets,
coats, sweaters, hats, mittens, lunchboxes, etc. If you are missing something, please check
